James Litchfield is an Australian writer and director. A Master’s graduate of Melbourne’s VCA, he has also studied at L’École Philippe Gaulier.

He and producing partner Lucinda Reynolds established “Joe Films” to produce their debut feature, Alphabet Lane, which premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival and is currently in Australian cinemas. James and Lucinda are currently developing a number of feature film scripts.

As a company, Joe Films loves to collaborate with actors and prioritises performance in all their projects.

In 2026, James directed his first play, Edward Albee’s At Home At The Zoo, produced by Lucinda for “Joe Theatre”.

James is also an EP on Rodeo Dreams, a rodeo documentary conceived of by him and Bill Bleakley and produced by Good Thing for the ABC. It will premiere at the Sydney Film Festival in 2026.

Prior to filmmaking, he worked as a lawyer, and an associate (clerk) to a federal court judge.
